As a wedding photographer on Maui for the last 10 years I know, the difficulty couples go into choosing a photographer that ticks all the boxes. Often, my couples are mostly trying to plan from elsewhere and usually unable to meet in person. I’ve compiled a list of things you want to consider when picking the wedding photographer for you. Remember, your pictures will last a long time after your wedding day, the photographer is one of THE most important people that you will hire. Here’s how to choose a Maui wedding photographer –

Style

Make sure you love not only the colors, and tones in your photographers gallery, but their posing style too. It’s important to see how they’ve captured other weddings, ask to see a full gallery of their images from a wedding.

Budget

Everyone has a different budget for their wedding day. You have to decide what works for you as a couple. There are wedding photographers to fit everyones finances out there, but as a general rule of thumb, the more you pay, the more experienced and therefore better outcome you will have.

Reviews

Check thoroughly all the reviews from the photographer you decide to hire. If they don’t have any, then move on! There are lots of review sites but Google, Yelp, The Knot, Wedding Wire are the most used.

Vibes

Get on a call or a Facetime with your potential photographer. They will be spending upwards of a few hours with you, you want to feel comfortable with their personality, and that you can be yourselves!

Photographer vs Associate

Make sure the wedding photographer you hire, will be the one shooting your photos. Many bigger studios use associate photographers, which is fine, but just be sure that you know who you are getting on the day!

Meet

If you’re able, schedule an engagement session with your photographer beforehand so you can get a feel for their style, their way of shooting, and it’s a great ice breaker so you’re prepare for the big day too!
